BIO

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Wonju Choi moved to the San Francisco Bay Area when she was 15 years old. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University, Choi went on to earn her Master of Art Therapy degree from Pratt Institute with the desire to marry her creative education with scientific, tangible application. While at Pratt, Choi explored the positive effects of art therapy with developing children and published her thesis on her findings. Choi's career has spanned both technical and artistic dimensions, providing art therapy at the psychiatric unit at Jamaica Hospital in New York and participating in several group exhibitions in galleries in New York and San Francisco. Her works were acquired by the San Jose Museum of Art and are now featured as part of their permanent collection.

Drawing from her experiences in both fine arts and art therapy, Choi is interested in finding meaningful connections within and outside herself. She uses the tools of artistic practice to provide shelter and solace for scattered emotions and thoughts etched in her psyche as she undergoes various life events. She hopes to bring inner peace through the practice.

Currently living in Los Angeles, Wonju Choi continues to create and prepare art for exhibitions and manages a therapy-based art studio. Her studio, consistent with her art practice, emphasizes the art making process as well as the end product.
